Sponsorship requirements & restrictions:

To be able to sponsor, you are required to meet certain sponsorship requirements. After having met the age and status requirements stated above, you will be required to sign an undertaking/promise to provide for the basic requirements/ financial support to the sponsored persons, from the time they enter Canada as Permanent Residents till the time period applicable to their type of sponsorship. The time period of undertaking is different for spouse, dependent children below 22 years, above 22 years, parents/grandparents, other relatives. You will need to sign agreement with the sponsored person, meet the Low income cut off dependent on type of your relationship with the sponsored relative.

There are certain limitations that affects your eligibility of being a sponsor such as you must not be a bankrupt must not subject to a removal order, must not be receiving social assistance for a reason other than disability, must not have been convicted of crime that accused you of any violence , offence that holds you accountable for an offence of sexual nature, an offence of threatening or attempt of threatening someone, or a conviction due to bodily harm caused by you to someone. The time when any of these offences were committed or time of your conviction for any such offence, you must not be subject to a removal order, must not be detained in any penitentiary, jail, reformatory or prison. The relative you want to sponsor must have been mentioned when you applied for your permanent residency, as your relative with the type of your relationship.

You won’t be able to sponsor if there is any immigration loan pending or you missed payments or paid it back later than the permissible time limit or you have unresolved payments issues for child support or alimony.

There are different requirements for different sponsorships under Family class, depending upon the type of relative, being sponsored. All those conditions must continue to be met until the sponsored persons have received their visa and have entered Canada. Every sponsored person under family class, who is 18 years or older needs a Police clearance certificate from their country of residence as well every other country where the sponsored person has lived form 6 or more months in continuation, in the last 10 years or since the age of 18. Also, every sponsored person will be required to get done their medical examination from IRCC chosen panel physicians.

Every family member of the principal applicant must be declared and examined, irrespective of them being accompanying or non accompanying member. Failing this might lead to case of misrepresentation and they might not be eligible of being sponsored at later time.
