Parents/Grandparents Sponsorship

To sponsor your parents/grandparents, at the foremost, sponsor must meet the eligibility requirements of a sponsor and provide care and support to them after they have arrived as permanent residents for 20 years, to fulfill their basic living requirements that include food, clothing, utilities, personal requirements, shelter etc. and the health related need not included in public health. You can only apply consequent upon receipt of invitation, if your application of interest has been accepted by IRCC.

A sponsor can sponsor his/her parents/grandparents and act as a co-signer while sponsoring parents/grandparents of his/her spouse, common-law partner, conjugal partner, who is also either a Canadian citizen, permanent resident of Canada or registered Indian under Canadian Indian Act. This means, both the sponsor and co-signer, if any, must meets the eligibility requirements of sponsor.

To sponsor them, the sponsor, independently or with a co-signer, must meet the Low income cut off + 30% criteria set for a household, for last 3 years of taxation. Also, their dependents can be sponsored along with if the financial requirements are being met for all. Parents/Grandparents must be medically admissible.

Social assistance if availed must have to be paid back by the sponsors before they could sponsor any other person and both, sponsor and co-signer shall remain equally liable for all the obligations specified in the undertaking for the total length of undertaking , irrespective of any change in their personal relationship or financial situation.

All requirements of Police clearance and medical checks, as applicable upon sponsored persons, as well as admissibility requirements must be met for the application to be approved. At the same time, sponsor must not be under any categorized default that will render him/her as ineligible sponsor.
